Who we are
This practice is dedicated to women and their traditions, that have historically lived just outside polite society. Irish folklore is full of them: women who knew too much, spoke too plainly, and refused to disappear when the world tried to tidy them away.
Ore magic was created by your classic witch: a woman who somehow ended up a little outside polite society and, like many women before her, learned to turn that position into something useful.
The old stories are full of women who lived at the edges of villages, who knew more than they were allowed, spoke out of turn, and made their living through a combination of intuition, charm, and the strange, enduring fascination people have with the obscene- women defying conventional society often being at the forefront of the deemed ‘obscene’.
This dedication of magic comes from that same lineage (…though with a bit more WiFi and streaming services than I imagine my great-great-great grandmother had).
My goal is simple: to preserve. We will not be forgotten, nor will the women before us, or the women before them.
My practice is also rooted in the communities I live within. I organize, advocate, lead, create, fight, and resist alongside women who have been pushed to the margins, and I believe deeply in the power of communities to care for their own. I have little interest in institutions that have never worked for me or for my sisters, and I refuse to believe that survival requires us to make ourselves quieter, or more palatable to fit within them. My magic, like my work, is about remembering what we know, and refusing to let the world convince us that we are powerless.
I am an advocate for plain language, and the reclamation of traditions that the corrupted conquerors thought destroyed. I encourage anyone willing to listen to the path of their ancestors to find ways of carrying that knowledge into their modern lives. We must not forget. We must not allow the old wisdom and practices of our people to disappear simply because the world has changed.
…And we must be wary of those who benefit from keeping us divided. The same forces that have always told women, workers, outsiders, and anyone ‘othered’ that we are separate and lesser, thrive now, and rely on division between us to remain in power. I believe in resisting that division, caring for our communities, caring for women especially, knowing that our strength has never come from standing alone. That we must always act together, as intended with covens, lest we fall victim, alone, to the forces seeking our submission.
My practice centers on women’s magick, folk magick, ancestral study, the traditions of the bandraoi, and spiritual guidance. Much of what appears here reflects a deep interest in lineage, intuition, and the subtle ways the past continues to speak through the present- especially through nature. Irish folklore and old-country traditions provide the foundation, but the heart of this work is helping. While I’m not adverse to a little baneful magic, the goal ultimately is to follow in the path of the righteous women before me, and to do what’s right by the earth and her people.
